Angus was incredibly helpful in diagnosing the issues with our dam. He provided clear, practical insight into why it was leaking, explaining things in a way that was easy to understand without oversimplifying the problem. His knowledge and experience were obvious, and he took the time to walk us through the causes and potential solutions. Angus took the time to run through in detail what could be done to help me seal a newly constructed dam. This was despite the fact that the dam in question was outside of the area where he operated. He was fully aware and still happy to help.

My dad would have put the first cement overflow down in the 60's sometime, when he extended the existing smaller dam. In the 00's with water starting to significantly tunnel underneath, we put a further collar down - probably a metre deep - and that did hold until it then started tunnelling further up. Hence collar 2 - and some years later - same thing - tunnelling causing us to lose a LOT of water - a steady stream on the other side. Clearly, we needed advice - and luckily came across the Big Ditch website. A phone call to Angus and we set up a video call so we could discuss what to do. Angus gave us several options, but our decision was to remove ALL the cement, pack it with clay base, cover that with soil and put in seed and reeds to prevent erosion when (if) we finally got rain. Hired a bloke with an excavator (luckily our nephew who had lots of experience - thanks Colin), and the cement was gone - on to the downside to help the erosion there. All was going well until we got late heavy rains in October and early November - which suddenly brought the water levels up. Concerned because the seed hadn't established well due to the drought, we bought squares of Buffalo grass from Bunnings and covered the spill way. More reeds and then temporary fencing to protect the lush green grass from marauding wildlife and determined stock! (despite the paddock being fenced off!) The whole way along this journey, Angus was able to offer clear suggestions and alternatives looking specifically at what we had, and what we were able to work with. He has been fabulous at getting back to us via phone or email and helping us decide what to do. We're now in the middle of summer and our dam hasn't held this well for YEARS. Thankfully we've never previously run out of water but the relief of having a significant supply at this time of year is immense. We couldn't recommend Angus highly enough. Thank you so much Angus. Spoke with Angus from Big Ditch for nearly an hour about a leaking dam that’s been filled with debris rather than natural clay. I’m based in Sydney and he’s in Melbourne, yet he generously gave his time free of charge. Absolute legend. He clearly explained the issue, recommended the right product, where to buy it, what it should cost, and even offered to talk me through how to apply it. After 7 years of hearing 'fill it in and start again' we have every confidence that Angus will be able to turn the rather large well that we inherited (see photo) into a functional and beautiful dam. You get what you pay for and Angus clearly has the knowledge to fix our 'leakage' problem while at the same time adding some important technical and aesthetic shifts that we hadn't considered.

Angus was very knowledgeable upon first inspection & has worked out a solution for our commercial farm. I look forward to working with him upon construction.
